Terms of use

A small set of rules, written like a human.

These terms cover how you use Surface, what we promise, and what we ask in return. If anything below feels unclear, write to us - we'd rather fix the wording than argue about it.

Using Surface

Surface is yours to use on your iPhone for personal, everyday memory keeping. You can capture, schedule, and resurface anything that matters to you, as much as you want.

We ask only that you don't use Surface to do anything illegal, to harm other people, or to break the app for everyone else.

Your account

Surface accounts support cloud backup, sync, and web access. When you use those features, you sign in with Apple or Google. Keep your sign-in safe, and let us know if something's off.

Free, premium, and your data

Surface is free to download and use. Premium adds cloud backup, sync, and the low-storage attachment recovery mode.

  • You can cancel premium any time. Your Surface data remains subject to the controls available in the app.
  • When you delete your account, we delete the data we hold on our servers within thirty days.
  • Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple under the App Store's standard policy.

Your content stays yours

You own the content you put into Surface. We don't claim it, sell it, or use it to train models. If you enable cloud backup, you give us permission to store and transmit that content for the sole purpose of making the backup and sync features work.

What we don't promise

Surface is provided as-is. We work hard on it, but we can't guarantee that the app, the on-device intelligence, or our servers will always be available, error-free, or perfectly accurate. Don't rely on Surface alone for anything that could put your safety, legal status, or finances at risk.

Limits of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to Surface is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past twelve months and one hundred dollars. We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Changes

We might update these terms when the app changes. If we make a material change, we'll let you know inside the app before it takes effect.

Ending the relationship

You can stop using Surface at any time by removing the app and, if you've enabled cloud backup, by deleting your account from the app settings. We can suspend accounts that abuse the service, but we'd always rather talk first.
